I. Bible Passage(s) Galatians 5:22 …the fruit of the Spirit is…goodness
God is the standard for what is good. He is gracious, righteous, and full of compassion (Psalm 166:5). He is faithful, loving and encouraging (Psalm 145:13-14). He saves. He gives everything we need for life and godliness…that we might participate in the divine nature (2 Peter 1:3-4).
By faith we are not only to be good, but we are to be good for some-thing; to let His light shine in the every corner of life. Goodness is not just about doing the right thing; it is about having a right and generous heart for people that overflows with the love of God in practical ways.
II. Discussion 1. It’s been said that goodness is easier to see and to define. Read Acts 9:36-43 and discuss how Dorcus’ goodness made her work so significant. How did she participate in the divine nature?
2. How can goodness simplify your life?
3. How can you nurture the goodness that has already been given you?
4. How can your goodness transform your relationships? How you view your work?
III. Connection 1. Share the high points and low points of your week. a. Why do you see these as highs and lows? b. How are they impacting your life right now? 2. This week I want to thank God for... 3. This week God is leading me to confess or grow in...
IV. Prayer & Praise The prayer of the cross can be a helpful guide for prayer and praise. Simply picture a cross in your mind. Label the top of the cross “Praise and Adoration of God.” Label the base of the cross “Requests.” On the cross bar, label the left side “Confession;” and the right side “Thanks.” These four categories help us keep our prayers well rounded.
Many people make the sign of the cross when they pray. You might like to practice this prayer while making the sign of the cross. Touch your forehead and pray your praises and adoration of God. Touch your chest and pray any requests you may have. Touch your left shoulder and make any confessions the Spirit brings to mind. Touch your right shoulder and pray your thanks. "Work is love made visible…" (Kahlil Gibran) |
